摘要: Abstract Opportunistic breeding has been hypothesized to evolve in response rare or unpredictable resource pulses. In this traditional view of opportunism, individuals invest heavily reproduction whenever conditions are permissive for breeding, perhaps at the expense investment survival. We term strategy ‘obligate opportunism’ (OBO). also present an additional that could account evolution opportunism. High mobility may allow move between rich patches resources spatially temporally unpredictable, reducing exposure food scarcity and taking advantage opportunities. This strategy, which we ‘rich patch exploiter’ (RPE), predicts survival-enhancing processes occur despite high availability. review examples determine opportunists better match predictions from OBO RPE then endocrine profiles context two strategies.
