摘要: A number of devices have been developed to assess physiological sexual response. Some come into direct contact with the genitals (e.g., vaginal/clitoral/penile plethysmography [VPP/CPP/PPG], labial thermistors [LT]), whereas others capture images remotely thermal imaging [TI], laser Doppler [LDI]). Researchers speculated about relative invasiveness these measurement tools, limited empirical work examining participants’ perceptions different and how may impact volunteer bias. We investigated individuals’ levels comfort participating in hypothetical psychophysiology studies their reasons for discomfort. also examined relationship between level compensation participation. Men (n = 291) women (n = 716) completed an online survey where they were presented vignettes describing using VPP, CPP, PPG, LT, TI, LDI. Participants reported idea each study, amount that would be reasonable, factors influencing decision not participate if unwilling. similarly comfortable some involving genital (VPP) or remote (TI), somewhat less (LDI, PPG; small small-medium effect sizes). Along our qualitative analysis, findings reveal is one aspect study intrusiveness, but it necessarily most important feature Our results suggest providing additional information regarding protocols at screening offering $50 might attract wider samples participants.
