摘要: Abstract Purpose Increasing burden of cancer in Europe and socio-demographic trends imply that more patients will face high levels dependency. Care dependency is often perceived as a distressing experience by who are concerned about becoming to others. The care dependence has been scarcely investigated advanced patients, especially the hospital setting. This study aimed at describing patients' experiences factors them contributing decrease or increase this dependence. Methods used descriptive phenomenological approach based on Husserl's (1913) life world perspective. Data collection analysis followed Giorgi's (1997) five basic methodological steps. were gathered semi-structured interviews with thirteen adult inpatients teaching hospital. audio-recorded recordings transcribed word for word. Results Three themes emerged: ‘dependency discovers new meanings life’, ‘active coping dependency’ ‘the cures dependent person’. essential meaning was possibility become aware being person both an object subject care. Conclusion Dependence appears strong relational connotations, which enable see differently their life, themselves, Dependency revealed natural experience, only partly accordance previous studies. Deeper insight into attach can nurses better meet patient's needs, e.g. improving caring relationships patients.
