摘要: OBJECTIVE: We previously reported that approximately half of the patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) have specific serologic abnormalities (elevated serum concentrations IgM factor and/or anti-cyclic citrullinated peptide antibodies) starting several years before onset symptoms. In this study, presence signs inflammation in preclinical RA was investigated serial measurements C-reactive protein (CRP). METHODS: Seventy-nine (61% female; mean age at symptoms 51 years) who had been blood donors were identified. Frozen samples from each donor retrieved, together 1 sample a control matched for age, sex, and date donation. CRP measured using highly sensitive latex-enhanced assay. The dates donation categorized into 15 1-year periods preceding For period, median levels patient groups compared Mann-Whitney U test. course over time group estimated random coefficient analysis. RESULTS: A 13 (range 1-51) per available; earliest made 7.5 0.4-14.5 total 1,078 1,071 tested. all periods, concentration increased group, but difference statistically significant only 0-1 year, 1-2 years, 4-5 significantly RA; slightly higher than those without such abnormalities. CONCLUSION: After observing 5 symptoms, we now report whom later developed; these increases most common within 2 increase observed both
