摘要: OBJECTIVE To compare outcome in Essential Tremor (ET) patients who have undergone either thalamotomy or Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) of the thalamus. BACKGROUND Although both and thalamic DBS are effective surgical treatments tremor, it is not known if one procedure superior to other. DESIGN/METHODS Thirty-five ET underwent between 1994-1998. Data on 18 were excluded. The remaining 17 matched for age, sex, side surgery, tremor severity DBS. There nine men eight women each group. mean age group was 74.4 years that 73.1 years. RESULTS There no significant differences any efficacy variables comparing thalamus at baseline follow-up visits. complications higher as compared However, a larger number repeat surgeries due problems with device leads. CONCLUSION Although similar ET, associated complication rate. should be choice treatment most cases. Mov. Disord. 16:140–143, 2001. © 2001 Movement Disorder Society.
