摘要: Understanding in the field of catastrophic wear is currently becoming well established. But serious incongruities may be found terminology use different countries that raise obstacles to effective translation and further work. There a lack conformity standard definitions reflects, at least part, wide diversity has been types mechanisms by which they occur. A number attempts have made since earliest investigations delineate them. In this paper, can identified as adhesion-initiated (AICW) are investigated. historical review past usage observed seizure, scoring, scuffing, galling, leads tentative refinement these terms. Detailed study their early stages development nucleation establishes close connections with (a) modes plastic deformation, (b) competitive rates formation stripping adsorbed oxide layers. New experimental data presented discussed for intensive strain-hardening steels low high sliding speed electrical contact behaviour soft/hard hard/hard lubricated friction pairs. preparing tribological treasure trove accumulated English Russian.
