Defining and redefining the scope and goals of genetic counseling

摘要: Many definitions of genetic counseling have been proposed since Sheldon Reed first defined the term in 1947. This study reviews selected including most recent definition by a committee National Society Genetic Counselors. The analysis focuses on professional background who was formulating definition; reasons why created; medical, historical, and social factors; definer's implicit or explicit goals counseling. No is ideal, any can only reflect values, ethics, goals, medical practices person group defining practice
