摘要: The emotion perceived in a face can be influenced by prior exposure to expressing different emotion. Here we show that displacement along particular emotional axis, encoding happiness and sadness, effected solely systematic change the angle, at centre of mouth, between left right halves mouth. We then demonstrate adaptation with mouth distorted this such expresses an on causes neutral expression as having opposite expression. By abstracting mouths from faces examining magnitude angle aftereffects alone unfamiliar orientation, magnitudes are sufficient account for changes faces. Further, applying distortion asymmetrically so is manifested orientation stimulus rather than aftereffect predicted local tilt aftereffect. argue, therefore, due misperception morphology application field. All experiments were performed using stimuli either high-pass or low-pass filtered spatial frequency. Results showed frequency specificity was same face, angled oriented stimuli, lending further support hypothesis instantiated processes early visual cortex assumed higher level are, fact, inherited.
