“We Gather Together”: Consumption Rituals of Thanksgiving Day

摘要: Thanksgiving Day is a collective ritual that celebrates material abundance enacted through feasting. both marks and proves to participants their ability meet basic needs abundantly consumption. So certain plenty for most U.S. citizens this annual celebration taken granted by participants. Not just moment of bounty but culture enduring celebrated. This article draws on ten data sets compiled over five-year period. We interpret the consumption rituals as discourse among consumers about categories principles underlie American consumer culture. That is, read an document orchestrated symbolically semiotically The cultural negotiates meanings issues in domestic national arenas are difficult many acknowledge, articulate, debate verbally. Through use multiple perspectives sources data, we attempt elucidate emic etic holiday.
