摘要: In order to locate mates, food, and oviposition sites, insects mainly rely on volatile cues released by their sexual partners, food sources, host non-host plants. Calling, mating, behaviors, as well fecundity longevity, of newly emerged Spodoptera littoralis (Bois.) moths were recorded in the presence volatiles from leaves a plant, Gossypium hirsutum (cotton) two plants, Adhatoda vasica (Av) or Picea abies (spruce), either alone host/non-host combinations. Females exposed cotton started calling earlier than females plant (NHV), blank control. Likewise, moth pairs mating other treatments. The period was longer kept with males, having opportunity mate. However, callings, durations pairs, different treatments not different. Longevity decreased absence Av, spruce leaves. Fecundity reduced combination cotton. effect NHV attraction 2-3–day-old male towards pheromone (Ph) source studied wind tunnel. no-choice assay, more males arrived at close approach landed Ph when cotton, offered background compared non-hosts. dual-choice front Gas chromatography-electroantennographic detection female S. revealed five antennally active compounds headspace collections three Av.
