摘要: Background Telephone triage is an integral part of modern patient care systems in human medicine, and a key component veterinary practice systems. There currently no published research on telephone within the profession. Objective To investigate current approaches to horses with abdominal pain (colic) develop new resources support decision-making. Study design Participatory action using mixed-methods approach. Methods An online survey assessed colic UK practices. Structured group individual interviews were conducted four equine client (reception) teams their experiences around colic. Evidence-based resources, including information pack, decision flow chart recording form, developed implemented Participant feedback was obtained through six months after implementation resources. Results 116 participants survey. Management staff (53/116) felt less confident giving owner advice (p<0.01) recognising critical indicators (p = 0.03) compared surgeons nurses (63/116). Thirteen themes identified relating advice; exercise safety most frequently mentioned, but conflicting guidance often given. Fourteen interviewed. They during conversation common signs cases as sweating recumbency. The received positive feedback; useful. After resource implementation, there increase confidence owners advice.
