摘要: While bicyclists and other active travelers obtain health benefits from increased physical activity, they also risk an uptake of traffic-related air pollution. But pollution exposure for urban is not well understood due to a lack direct measurements insufficient analysis the determinants exposure. This knowledge gap impedes pollution-conscious transportation planning, design, impact assessment. The research presented in this report generates new connections between system characteristics bicyclists. primary questions are: 1) How does bicyclists’ vary with roadway travel characteristics? 2) To what extent can transportation-related strategies reduce exposure? Novel methods collect integrate bicycle, rider, traffic, environmental data are introduced. Bicyclist concentrations were collected on wide range facilities Portland, Oregon. High-resolution trajectory then integrated traffic data. Models estimated on-road Important quantifications models include effects facility type, average daily (ADT), stop-and-go conditions, industrial corridors multi-pollutant Findings literature distilled so that be incorporated into bicycle network design guidelines.
