摘要: The biodiversity of local communities is likely affected by both habitat quality and the landscape surrounding locality. In pond environments may be kind leaf litter present because species differ in structure they provide rate at which release nutrients into water. Landscape could affect diversity as well; some landscapes a richer pool potential colonists. addition plant community ponds alter influence selection: animals prefer to colonize that have matches typically produced plants (e.g. if organisms are adapted types habitats where occur). We conducted split-plot randomized block experiment examine how scale properties their interaction within temporary eastern NC. manipulated artificial were located (open-canopy grassland pine forest hardwood forest) (sedge or maple) ponds. Ponds open colonization amphibians aquatic insects during summer 2010. surveyed on monthly basis did complete census each summer's end. The (landscape) had consistent strong effects throughout experiment: open-canopy supported more different kinds than forested systems. Litter type catch-and-release samples with sedge treatments treatments. also found evidence from suggest was enhanced greater extent canopy when but closed less present. Our results highlight importance terrestrial matrix it aid conservation efforts aimed maintaining unique
