摘要: Complex molecules have been successfully grafted onto the surface of unsized carbon fibre, a heterogeneous material which is challenge to functionalise. The in situ generation highly reactive phenyldiazo-species from their corresponding anilines was employed achieve this task. success an initial proof-of-concept study (bearing nitro moiety) supported by X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS) and physical characterisation, led design synthesis more complex compound possessing pendant amine moiety could theoretically react with epoxide based resin. After attachment oxidised fibres, analysis XPS resulting fibres (fluorine used as tag) indicated marked difference functionalisation attributed steric factors, shown be critical influencing phenyldiazo-intermediate fibre surface. Analysis key performance parameters these showed no change elastic modulus, strength, topography or microscopic roughness when compared control fibres. functionalised did however show large increase coefficient friction.
