What the prostate cancer patient should know: variations in urologists' opinions.

摘要: OBJECTIVES: To determine the questions that treating Ontario urologists think should be addressed with patients who have curable prostate cancer before treatment decisions are made. METHODS: All (Canada) (179) were given a scenario describing case of and asked to judge importance, using one four categories (essential/important/no opinion/avoid), addressing each 78 questions. RESULTS: Ninety-seven (54%) completed survey. The identified most frequently as "essential" address were: treatment-related incontinence rates (76%), cure (74%), impotence (73%), right refusal (71%), mortality from watchful waiting (63%). "avoid" related searching for first medical centre (29%) number cured by physicians (16%). There was little agreement among on importance remaining (Average 40.7%). CONCLUSIONS: Most assign great major morbidity success rates. Beyond these few categories, there is widespread disparity about what information patient know. This "information gap" presents an identifiable dilemma in our adherence ethical principles underpinning informed consent potentially cancer.
