摘要: Iron is a redox-active metal required as cofactor in multiple metalloproteins essential for host of life processes. The highly toxic when present excess and must be strictly regulated to prevent tissue organ damage. Hepcidin, molecule first characterized an antimicrobial peptide, plays critical role the regulation iron homeostasis. Multiple stimuli positively influence expression hepcidin, including iron, inflammation, infection by pathogens. In this Minireview, I will discuss how inflammation regulates hepcidin transcription, allowing sufficient concentrations organismal needs while sequestering from infectious
