摘要: The objective of this study was to estimate the prevalence hearing impairment in children a public hospital Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil, and investigate association with risk factors described literature. This cross-sectional retrospective analyzed 798 newborns infants evaluated Universal Neonatal Hearing Screening Program from June 2002 December 2003. established by Joint Committee on Infant 1994 Azevedo 1996 were studied, besides prematurity. Prevalence 1.8% (15 cases). A multivariate logistic regression analysis used verify associations between impairment, showing significant statistical (p < 0.05) loss suspicion relatives, hyperbilirubinemia (serum level requiring exchange transfusion), ototoxic drugs, low birth weight. neonates confirmed. Attention should thus be focused for using programs that ensure prevention, early detection, intervention.
