摘要: The semi-arid regions of the world rely on a relatively small number staple food crops, most which are also grown in temperate humid climates. Consultative Group for International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) has established two international research centres to work major crops these regions. Centre Dry Areas (ICARDA) is based Aleppo, Syria, and was 1977. It researches forage cereals legumes. cereal durum wheat, bread barley triticale legumes lentils, faba bean kabuli chickpeas. chickpeas collaborative effort with ICRISAT (see below). region ICARDA directed Mediterranean south-west Asia. extends from Morocco west Pakistan east Turkey north Sudan south. area includes large high altitude zone where both cold drought stress encountered.
