摘要: During the period of reproduction red deer stags gather harems and roar loudly repeatedly, both toward competing hinds that they actively herd. It has been proposed may choose their mate on basis a comparison roaring rate stags. Hinds also to with male is most familiar them, i.e. who spent time eAort in retaining them within his harem at them. Such mechanism female choice implies females are able discriminate individual characteristics stags’ roars. We investigated this possibility by conducting playback experiments based habituation‐discrimination paradigm. Our results show between roars current harem-holder stag those other neighbouring suggest ability, necessity for recognition, be important deer.
