摘要: Objective. —To determine the excess length of stay, extra costs, and mortality attributable to adverse drug events (ADEs) in hospitalized patients. Design. —Matched case-control study. Setting. —The LDS Hospital, a tertiary care health institution. Patients. —All patients admitted Hospital from January 1, 1990, December 31,1993, were eligible. Cases defined as with ADEs that occurred during hospitalization; controls selected according matching variables stepwise fashion. Methods. —Controls matched cases on primary discharge diagnosis related group (DRG), age, sex, acuity, year admission; varying numbers each case. Matching was successful for 71% cases, leading 1580 20197 controls. Main Outcome Measures. —Crude mortality, crude cost hospitalization. Results. —ADEs complicated 2.43 per 100 admissions study period. The rates 3.5% 1.05%, respectively (P Conclusion. lengths stay costs hospitalization are substantial. An ADE is associated significantly prolonged increased economic burden, an almost 2-fold risk death.
