摘要: Abstract : We have examined broadband waveforms from a large number of NTS explosions and earthquakes throughout the southwestern United States in order to characterize seismic sources. Explosions were found be richer coda energy than earthquakes. Most show relatively little long-period (T>4 sec) tend shear-wave explosions. developed several discriminants based on these observations our modeling experience. One promising discriminant is ratio short-period vertical components, P-wavetrain energy, surface wave averaged over three components. higher do earthquakes, essentially an extension Mb:M5. Magnitude threshold for this about 3.5. Another useful total moment where are distinguished by their stronger levels relative amplitudes. This approach requires Green's functions, source estimator program, processes all events as For method effective calibration region using M>5, but does not require calibrations
