摘要: Abstract In this study, the calibration of subsurface batch and reactive-transport models involving complex biogeochemical processes was systematically evaluated. Two hypothetical nitrate biodegradation scenarios were developed simulated in numerical experiments to evaluate performance three search procedures: a multi-start non-linear regression algorithm (i.e. Levenberg–Marquardt), global heuristic particle swarm optimization), hybrid that combines procedure with regression-based “polishing” step. Graphical analysis selected problems revealed heterogeneous regions extreme parameter sensitivity insensitivity along abundant numbers local minima. These characteristics hindered technique, which generally least effective considered algorithms. most cases, methods capable producing improved model fits at comparable computational expense. other algorithms yielded fitness values but markedly differing estimates associated uncertainty measures.
