摘要: It has often been suggested that the pitch of a complex tone is given by inverse time between peaks in fine structure stimulus waveform. This paper argues view recent empirical evidence such position untenable. Fine‐structure models as “peak‐picker” are phase sensitive; they predict changes will be accompanied pitch. Results from several pitch‐matching experiments do not support this prediction. Two described which matches were made to complex‐tone stimuli presented different configurations. In both distributions appeared same for all Stimulus structure, course, changed dramatically with phase. Of fact insensitive relative phases components does mean listeners cannot hear changes. many cases perfectly discriminable. only appears details wave form structure. leads us reject simple fine‐structure theories
