Knowledge, attitudes, and practices of parents in rural China on the use of antibiotics in children: a cross-sectional study

摘要: The purpose of the study was to investigate parents’ perceptions antibiotic use for their children, interactions between parents and physicians regarding treatment with antibiotics, factors associated self-medicating children antibiotics. A cross-sectional conducted in vaccination clinics two rural Chinese counties. Primary caregivers (the child’s 97% cases) visiting these young were given a 55-item structured questionnaire collect information on knowledge attitudes when, why, how antibiotics practices purchasing medicating children. Of 854 participating primary caregivers, 79% thought could cure viral infections, half believed that shorten duration upper respiratory tract infection. Parents reported median hospital visits during previous 6 months, equal number prescriptions received from physicians. Sixty-two percent had self-medicated Living villages (Adj OR = 1.643, 95% CI: 1.108–2.436), raising more than one child OR = 2.174, 1.485–3.183), increasing age OR = 1.146, 1.037–1.266), without prescription OR = 6.264, 4.144–9.469), storing at home OR = 2.792, 1.961–3.975) good adherence physicians’ advice OR = 0.639, 0.451–0.906) independently behavior. Low levels high prevalence observed among China. Interventions rational should focus strengthening mass health education, improving effective communication patients, enforcing supervision sale retail pharmacies.
