Thermal stability and UV-shielding properties of polymethyl methacrylate and polystyrene modified with calcium carbonate nanoparticles

摘要: The influences of nanosized CaCO3 on the thermal and optical properties embedded in poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) polystyrene (PS) were investi- gated. Calcium carbonate nanoparticles synthesized by situ deposition technique, its nano size (32-35 nm) was confirmed scanning electron microscope (SEM) X-ray studies. Nanocomposites samples PMMA/CaCO3 PS/CaCO3 prepared with different filler loading (0-4 wt%) solution mixing technique. Fourier transform infrared analysis con- firmed that present poly- mers matrices. morphology elemental composition nanocomposites evaluated SEM energy dispersive spectroscopy. characterized differential calorimetric, thermogravimetric, thermo- gravimetry analysis, results indicate incor- poration could significantly improve PS/ nanocomposites. glass transition temperature (Tg) decomposition (Td) 4 wt% increased 30 24 K case 32 15 nanocomposites, respectively. obtained transparent films character- ized using UV-Vis spectrophotometer which shows transparencies are almost maintained visible region while intensity absorption band ultraviolet (UV) is nanopar- ticles contents these composites particles enhance UV-shielding polymers.
