摘要: To understand the vulnerability of individual species to anthropogenic contamination, it is important evaluate different abilities phytoplankton respond environmental changes induced by pollution. The ability a adapt, rather than its initial tolerance, basis for survival under rapidly increasing levels contamination. High doses osmium (Os) cause massive destruction diverse groups. In this study, we found that coastal chlorophyte Tetraselmis suecica and continental Dictyosphaerium chlorelloides were able adapt lethal dose Os. these species, Os-resistant cells arose as result rare spontaneous mutations (at rates approximately 10−6 mutants per cell division) occurred before exposure remained in microalgal populations means mutation–selection balance. huge size ensures there are always enough guarantee population Os contrast, observed neither haptophyte from open ocean regions nor cyanobacterium freshwater dose. Adaptation contamination relevant because industrial activities leading rapid increase pollution worldwide.
