摘要: This initial chapter gives a brief summary of the scope and goals DIMSUD project. The starting point is urbanization process in developing world. world’s population growing tremendously. Particularly affected are countries Africa Latin America where strong migration fluxes lead to unprecedented urban growth. City sprawl engenders series environmental, ecological, social problems for its inhabitants. Authorities often unable steer development, most all so-called “mega cities.” But there also opportunities help turn rapid into sustainable development? Cities that rapidly yet relatively small comparison mega cities have act before their become unsolvable. Based on case studies Johannesburg, Gaborone, Santiago de Chile, project analyzed challenges potentials action order achieve more development.
