摘要: Positive covariations between survival and reproductive performance (S-R covariation) are generally interpreted in the context of fixed or dynamic demographic heterogeneity (i.e. persistent differences individuals, variation resource acquisition), but processes underlying still unknown. We used multi-event modelling to investigate how environmental individual features influence S-R covariation patterns a long-lived seabird, Monteiro's storm petrel (Oceanodroma monteiroi). Our analysis reveals that strong positive association breeding success subsequent occurs only when conditions favourable reproduction (in years, high-quality nests nest-faithful breeders). This finding reflects main causes failure mortality under unfavourable conditions, which turn lead distinct covariation. suggest, particular, resource-related sources do not generate covariation, contrast with hidden unpredictable variation.
