摘要: Deep burrowing earthworms are important ecosystem service providers but their populations reduced by arable cultivations. We need to both better understand the impact of changes in crop management on and implement practices enhance in-field populations. Two current trends cropping increased use non-inversion tillage over winter cover crops. Lumbricus terrestris abundances were estimated using midden counting two field trials comparing practices. The long running (8-year) trial showed that shallow had significantly (p 0.05) effect L. counts, either during or within rotation. Field observations identified 93% middens associated with leaves (still attached stem) incorporated into burrow which may be a novel route agrochemical exposure needs further investigation.
