摘要: Summary  Rapid, on-ground assessments of vegetation condition are frequently used as a basis for landholder education, development applications, distributing incentive funds, prescribing restoration treatments and monitoring change. We provide an overview methods to rapidly assess these purposes. encourage those developing new approaches work through the steps we have presented here, namely define management objectives operational constraints; develop appropriate conceptual framework ecosystems under consideration; select suite indicators; consider options available combining into index. argue that information must be gained from broader scales make decisions about individual sites. Remote sensing spatial modelling might more than obtaining this information. However, believe prediction will only add value rather replace them. This is because current techniques spatially predicting cannot capture all in site assessment or at required level accuracy, maps exchange between assessors land managers important component assessment. There scope sophistication way undertaken, but challenge maintain simplicity makes rapid popular vehicle informing natural resource management. greater peer review publishing field facilitate ideas experiences.
