摘要: Abstract Background Worldwide millions of workers are exposed to organic solvents. Long term exposure leads in some the development Chronic Solvent induced Encephalopathy (CSE). The first reports about CSE came from European Nordic countries 1970s. In spite decades experience with this disease, little is known course and prognostic factors CSE. Objective To provide an overview evidence Methods A systematic review was conducted. Databases PubMed, PsycINFO (1970–2008) EMBASE (1980–2008) were searched search strategy: solvent AND follow up (encephalopathy OR chronic intoxication). Inclusion criteria were: written English, study population patients, follow-up time at least 1 year. Included articles assessed on methodological quality. Results Sixty unique retrieved which sixteen met inclusion criteria. Data extraction provided information domains neurology, neuropsychology, physical mental health perceptions, social consequences. a number studies no significant changes, other improvement functioning could be measured. Prognostic resulting included summarized for each domain indicating potential positive influence younger age lower variables. Discussion Due large heterogeneity methodology levels obtained. This shows that there need future research addresses variety functioning, hopefully overall model Conclusion Studies agreement being non-progressive disease severe deterioration occurs after diagnosis. Presumably cessation might one causal character as has been found. Future needed clarify role various
