摘要: Abstract The design and performance of a new high resolution multipurpose instrument are described illustrated. comprises high-power, fine-focusing e − -gun, speed rotating anode, double focusing multi-crystal X-ray monochromator, monochromatic UV-source with toroidal grating, fine-focus variable energy -source, four-element electrostatic -lens system, large 36 cm hemispherical analyzer, 12 wide electron multi-detector system dedicated computer system. Various sample probes for gases, liquids solids discussed. is shown to reach an at least 0.23 eV excitation sufficient intensity enable the study gases. A number illustrative examples proved instrumental presented. “line-sharpening” effect, due post-collision interaction in Auger spectra, revealed spectrometer resolution. strongest vibrational components C 1s ESCA line from methane first time resolved. High spectra also presented solids, e.g. spin-orbit split Si 2p well resolved into two structures appear Ag Au valence bands. Calculated density states found be good agreement these structure rich d-bands. Phonon accompanying photoionization process discussed relation its causing additional broadening lines.
