摘要: This study focuses on the eroding bench of Ocean Shore Railroad (1907-1920) along central California coast. Investigation remnant feature demonstrates impacts landscape change human timescale. Topographic maps and georeferenced aerial photographs aid in first digital registration coastal rail sections. Sixty locations at northern end area provide site-specific rates erosion. The geographic information systems-based effort reveals a 66.7 km route divided among steep, hillslope- terrace-dominated sections where natural anthropogenic processes have shifted land cover from railway to roadway, open, agricultural, developed spaces. For 60 erosion assessment locations, only 25 % 1928 width remains after 82 years and, areas repurposed for Pacific Coast Highway (1936-1957), 38 1956 road 54 years. highest estimates are greater than 0.6 m yr-1. These values do not reflect episodic mass wasting, highlighting limited utility steady land-use decision.
