ECONOMIC HARDSHIP AND THE EMOTIONAL HEALTH OF FAMILY CAREGIVERS

摘要: Research Purposes: Multiple studies have quantified the direct and indirect costs of cancer care; however, there is little attention to how concerns about impact emotional health family caregivers. The purpose this study, using Pittsburgh Mind Body Center Model, was evaluate perceptions economic hardship influence burden, anxiety, depressive symptoms in caregivers persons with a primary malignant brain tumor.Methods: Data were from an ongoing, longitudinal study (NCI R01CA118711). Caregiver (CG)/care recipient (CR) dyads (n=33) recruited within month CR's diagnosis; data collected at point diagnosis 4 months later. CRs questioned Neurocognitive Status Exam (NCSE) CGs completed questionnaires determine hardship, burden (Caregiver Reaction Assessment), anxiety (POMS), (CES-D). Linear regression used examine relationships among variables.Results: Perceived had significant effect on two CG subscales: feelings that providing care negatively affected one's schedule, abandonment. Economic did not predict due schedule baseline, but significantly (p<.01) Alternately, predicted abandonment time (p<.01), into situation. depression by after (p=.05), initial interview. both second interview (p<.01).Conclusions: Results suggest caregivers' perception may be important yet variable aspect feel throughout situation.Public Health Significance: Caregivers chronic disease such as face financial pressure negative consequences.
