摘要: [1] Eight years of satellite data quantify spring 2005 surface chlorophyll-a (chl-a) anomalies in coastal areas the California Current. Negative <−1.0 mg m−3 begin March north ∼47°N, spread south to 43°N April and 40°N May June 2005, maximum (<−2.0 m−3) 45°N. Positive chlorophyll dominate from ∼40°N 27°N during this period. Strongest negative wind stress positive temperature are located chl-a anomalies, region climatological summer stress. Despite magnitude these they remain upwelling-favorable higher latitude regions weaker sufficient however, prolong winter downwelling, delaying onset upwelling. In June, winds across entire become strongly upwelling favorable by July, switch positive.
