摘要: BACKGROUND Iron deficiency has a high prevalence in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) patients, with negative impact on quality of life and work capacity. AIM To propose an innovative approach based early intervention, treating to target tight monitoring the management iron IBD patients. METHODS We conducted literature review PubMed Medline using pre-defined keywords terms identify relevant studies IBD. RESULTS Many physicians are focused anaemia; however, anaemia is one consequences deficiency. Hence, our therapeutic goal for these patients should evolve towards prevention by screening Early diagnosis combination ferritin concentration transferrin saturation. consider that normalisation biomarkers reflects stores replenishment be considered as major goal. Treating regardless presence seems improve several chronic conditions although strong evidence still lacking. Tight required allow detection recurrence prompt additional supplementation. CONCLUSION extrapolate three-step strategy (early treating-to-target monitoring) Universally applied, this proactive expected result better outcomes
