摘要: To investigate nutritional status and heterosexual human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) transmission, we performed a nested case-control study of sexually active, adult women in Kigali, Rwanda. Forty-five who seroconverted during the 24-month period were compared to 74 remained seronegative throughout study. Seroconvertors nonseroconvertors did not differ preseroconversion serum levels vitamin A, carotenoids, E, selenium, albumin, ferritin, or cholesterol. Weight loss, however, was significant predictor eventual HIV seroconversion. Subsequent seroconvertors lost an average 1.5 kg first 6 months with 1.0-kg gain (p = 0.001) for nonconvertors. Nine 27 (33%) seroconvertors, one 44 (2%) controls, at least 5 6-month beginning 1 year before their seroconversion (odds ratio, 21.5, 95% confidence interval 4.1-112). The association between weight loss independent other potential risk factors such as socioeconomic status, pregnancy, genital ulcer disease. In addition these findings measured follow-up, reported enrollment also factor subsequent Additional studies transmission are needed determine whether is causally related susceptibility infection.
