Preparation and characterization of chitosan–clay nanocomposites with antimicrobial activity

摘要: Abstract Chitosan–montmorillonite nanocomposites were prepared by an ion exchange reaction between water soluble oligomeric chitosan and a Na+-montmorillonite. The chitosan–montmorillonite rapidly within 1 h due to the high affinity montmorillonite clay host. basal spacings of composites in range 14.5–19.6 A depending on mixing ratio clay. According thermogravimetric analysis (TG) powder X-ray diffraction thermal stability was remarkably improved interlayer space strong electrostatic interaction cationic molecules with anionic silicate layers. From antimicrobial activity test it found that showed synergistic effect against Escherichia coli Staphylococcus aureus.
