摘要: Hog-badgers (mustelid carnivorans classified in the genus Arctonyx) are distributed throughout East and Southeast Asia, including much of China, eastern Indian Subcontinent, Indochina large continental Asian island Sumatra. Arctonyx is usually regarded as monotypic, comprising single species A. collaris F. Cuvier, 1825, but taxonomic boundaries have never been revised on basis sizeable series from this geographical range. Based a review most available specimens world museums, we recognize three distinctive within genus, based craniometric analyses, qualitative craniodental features, external comparisons, ecological considerations. albogularis (Blyth, 1853) shaggy-coated, medium-sized badger widely temperate Tibet Himalayan region to southern China. an extremely large, shorter-haired badger, India Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia Laos. The world's largest extant co-occurs with probably fossil comparisons indicate that its range may extended into central China middle Pleistocene. disjunctly hoevenii (Hubrecht, 1891), originally described order 'Edentata' by remarkable misunderstanding, smallest darkest member endemic Barisan mountain chain Apart hoevenii, no other occurs Sunda Shelf below peninsular Thailand. natural history each Arctonyx, so far known, briefly reviewed. No claim original US Government works.
