摘要: The crystallin proteins were initially identified as structural of the ocular lens and have been recently demonstrated to be expressed in normal retina. They are dramatically upregulated by a large range retinal diseases including diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration, uveitis, trauma ischemia. family is composed alpha-, beta- gamma-crystallin. Alpha-crystallins, which small heat shock proteins, received substantial attention recently. This review summarizes current knowledge alpha-crystallins diseases, their roles neuron cell survival inflammation, regulation expression activity. Their potential role development new treatments for neurodegenerative also discussed.
