摘要: As part of the Arctic/Sub-Arctic Ocean Flux (ASOF) and International Polar Year (IPY) programs, a research project consisting mooring analysis work has studied ocean ice fluxes passing through Lancaster Sound, one three main pathways Canadian Arctic Archipelago (CAA) since 1998. The aim is to understand variability in sea volume, heat freshwater CAA determine their relationship budgets itself circulation vertical ventilation North Atlantic Ocean. Eight years data have now been processed analyzed. exhibit large seasonal interannual variabilities with small fall early winter summer. mean volume flux estimates range from low 0.0Sv 1998 maximum 1.3Sv summer 2000 (1Sverdrup=1.0x10ms). It an 8yr annual 0.7Sv varies interannually by ±0.3Sv. Model simulations indicate that Sound make up 40-50% entire Archipelago, they are dependent on level difference between Beaufort Sea Baffin Bay horizontal density gradients across CAA, observations which scarce or non-existent. Regression wind field shows NW Passage measured significantly correlated far forcing Sea. northeastward winds Sea, parallel western side show highest correlation monthly time scales. This result consistent transport being driven opposite ends Passage, determined setup caused alongshore
