摘要: Optical spectra recorded with Ar and I2 in a He expansion exhibit fluorescence from an excitation continuum through broad region of the discrete B←X transitions I2–Ar. This emanates B‐state arises excitations bimolecular I2–Ar van der Waals complex. These results were obtained order to test proposed mechanism for one‐atom cage effect I2–Ar, whereby repulsive Πu state precedes coupling onto B state, dissociation complex, I2. The variation relative intensity observed wavelength can be adequately reproduced this model, but Πu←X transition is much too weak explain absolute intensities.
