摘要: There are many musical sequences in which the rhythm is evident from mere durations of notes. A simple theory proposed how a listener may infer such sequence by comparing note lengths. It assumed that forms an idea as unfolds, constructing and eliminating metrical hypotheses light what he hears. The theory, differs some important respects earlier proposals, has been implemented computer program. program tested on wide variety examples, its successes failures discussed detail.
