摘要: Publisher Summary This chapter reviews catalytic structure–function relationships in heme peroxidases. One advantage of studies on proteins and enzymes is that the relatively rigid provides a well-defined active-site cavity. Many with diverse functions share same prosthetic group, which necessitates biological activity be governed by polypeptide. Peroxidases catalyze oxidation wide variety organic inorganic substrates hydrogen peroxide. The describes peroxidases known structure enzyme intermediates formed during their catalysis. Catalases react mechanism similar to but reaction catalyzed disproportionation function catalases appears prevention peroxide buildup, have roles, including biosynthesis defense. A number defend organisms against infection. Neutrophils are specialized white blood cells playing key role combating infection contain high peroxidase activity. plant superfamily consists evolutionarily related from bacteria, fungi, plants.
