摘要: ContextStatins are widely prescribed for their lipid-lowering effects but also have putative antioxidant properties. Oxidative stress is believed to play a role in the development of nuclear cataract, little known regarding relationship statin use and cataract incidence.ObjectiveTo evaluate statins incident adults midwestern community United States.Design, Setting, ParticipantsThe Beaver Dam Eye Study, an observational, longitudinal, population-based study age-related eye disease Dam, Wis. There were 1299 persons who seen at third examination 1998-2000, had gradable photographs both eyes, deemed be risk developing within 5 years.Main Outcome MeasureFive-year incidence with respect use. Cataracts graded from taken through participant’s dilated pupil.ResultsA total 210 developed interval 1998-2000 2003-2005. Five-year was 12.2% users compared 17.2% nonusers (odds ratio [OR], 0.55; 95% confidence [CI], 0.36-0.84), controlling age. When only never smokers without diabetes assessed, age-, lipid level–, sex-adjusted OR 0.40 (95% CI, 0.18-0.90). cortical 9.9% 7.5% (OR, 1.28; 0.79-2.08); posterior subcapsular occurred 3.0% 3.4% 0.82; 0.39-1.71).ConclusionStatin general population appears associated lower most common type cataract.
