摘要: We have previously demonstrated that systemic administration of testosterone increases the rate axonal regeneration following facial nerve crush in adult male hamsters. In this investigation, molecular mechanisms by which androgens may enhance were examined. Specifically, question was addressed using Northern blot and situ hybridization with three cytoskeletal cDNA probes complementary to beta II-, III-, alpha 1-tubulin mRNA: does exogenous augment axotomy-induced changes tubulin mRNA expression hamster motoneurons (FMN)? Adult hamsters subjected unilateral severance, opposite side serving as an internal control. One-half animals subcutaneously implanted Silastic capsules containing crystalline propionate other half blank capsules. Postoperative survival times 2 7 d. At d after axotomy alone, no levels any mRNAs observed injured FMN. However, axotomy, significant all observed. This time course gene is consistent findings neuronal populations. Administration at injury had two major effects on response pattern axotomized First, differentially regulated set examined, II-tubulin selectively altered steroid, whereas III- or not.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)
