Urbanization, informality and housing inequality in indigenous villages: A case study of Guangzhou

摘要: Housing inequality has been well discussed within countries where formal institution dominates housing market. But little research explored the issue a society both informal and work. Villages facing urbanization in China offer unique institutional environment that combine market-oriented transition official socialist principle of equality. Drawing on household survey 32 villages Guangzhou, this paper analyzes among indigenous villagers between villages. Empirical data shows equality still dominate allocation residential land for but their dwellings are obviously differentiated influenced by individual socio-economic status village context. It concludes state fails to respond growing difference caused rapid urbanization, incremental stratification economic political inequality, family’s life cycle. These findings contribute body knowledge understanding with an context under authoritarian setting.
