摘要: This special issue represents an attempt to answer fundamental brain and behaviour issues in attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). The European network on hyperkinetic disorders (Eunethydis) is trying develop a novel, testable theory of ADHD, giving account its causes, development from dysfunctions behavioural symptoms co-morbidity explaining why no current therapy produces long-lasting improvements. combined insights the articles presented here suggest that there damage but hypo-efficient dopamine systems which give rise neurochemical imbalances. These cause problems: deficits sustained attention, overactivity impulsiveness. Impulsiveness increasingly being seen as key characteristic disorder. None these are necessarily primary, may be secondary underlying deficit reinforcement processes particularly greater than normal sensitivity variations timing stimulus presentation. Other can also seen: altered effects reinforcers, increased variance motor co-ordination problems. Medication temporary, plastic changes cellular components like receptors transduction mechanisms normalising functions behaviour. reserved.
