摘要: Early studies on Melanesian mountain systems provided insights for fundamental evolutionary and ecological concepts. These island-like are thought to provide opportunities in the form of newly formed, competition-free niches. Here we show that a hyperdiverse radiation freshwater arthropods originated emerging central New Guinea orogen, out Australia, about 10 million years ago. Further diversification was mainly allopatric, with repeated more recent colonization lowlands as they emerged colliding oceanic island arcs, continental fragments Papuan Peninsula, well recolonization orogen. We unveil constant ongoing process lineage accumulation while carrying capacity is be reached, suggesting speed now exceeds landmass/new opportunity formation. Therefore, orogeny acts motor entire region.
