Uncertainty in the labour market: How does fixed-term employment affect fertility and mental health of the young generation?

摘要: We study the short- to medium-run effects of starting a career on fixed-term contract subsequent fertility and health outcomes. focus start since we expect that temporary contracts their inherent economic uncertainty imply path dependence which might have spill-over other domains life. Our empirical analysis is based rich data from German Socio-Economic Panel provides comprehensive information about individuals’ labour market history as well behaviour, physical mental indicators. main results are due employment at entry women tend to: (i) postpone first births, (ii) fewer children within ten years after graduation (iii) lower status three graduation. These associations strongest in subsample native with secondary education. In contrast, find no significant correlations for men. argue these findings robust potential endogeneity threats.
